Ultimately, both series have their respective strengths and weaknesses. Where the Scan! Series favors lightweight versatility and portability, the SmartLF SC series favors speed and image quality. As we can see from the spec comparison, the SC series has nearly double the pixel density of the Scan! Series – 1200 dpi is the highest resolution which our products support, and is leading industry standard, although 600 dpi is no small figure either, and is typically more than sufficient to achieve the desired image quality. Similarly, the SC series has a much faster scanning speed – more than double that of the Scan! Series when scanning in monochrome. The weight of the Scan! Series can’t be beat, though – the Scan! 36 is less than a third of the weight of its SC counterpart, the SC36. Though this may come as no surprise, the practicality and applicability of these devices will probably come down to their intended use. If you are on-the-go and require a large format device which you can easily bring with you in the car or on a plane, then the Scan! Series will be right up your alley. Alternatively, if you’re based out of a fixed location and need higher image quality at faster speeds, then the SC series should dutifully serve your purpose.
