We learned about the Colorado Saving Places Conference this February 4-6, 2015 from a current customer who purchased a flatbed scanner from us for his city's newspaper archive requirements. The Saving Places Conference provides a venue for advocates for preservation to present and discuss today's challenges for the future.
Our company, Large Document Solutions, was the first document oriented company to exhibit at this conference and give attention to methods of historic document archiving. We demonstrated the Image Access flatbed and book scanners; both great choices for scanning fragile manuscripts and old books. It was very exciting for us to speak with participants from diverse fields including planning, real estate, archaeology, public history, architecture, museums studies, building trades, artists and libraries. Coming from Colorado and being very aware of the devastation from our recent fires, they all shared the same mission in finding the best tool to capture and preserve their valuable documents and books. They gained a vast understanding on the wide format digital equipment that is currently available.
Next year we plan to also participate as a presenter in an educational seminar on the past, present and future of archiving historic documents including a discussion on microfilming which retains documents for 500 years.
